Team slam

Split your students into 2 teams. Students can give their team fun names and tell them that bonus stars will be awarded for well behaved teams to help with classroom management during the activity. Each member of the team will be given a number (1-10 if there are 20 students in the class) and make sure there are 2 students assigned to each number. Ask comprehension questions eg Max, are you number 3? And ensure all students know their number before you start playing. Call out a flashcard eg “rabbit 4” the two students who were given the number 4 race to touch the rabbit flashcard and use in a sentence “I have a rabbit”. The quickest student wins a star for their team.

Put flashcards on the ground near your chair and tell the students that you are a tiger. Choose a few students; they will attempt to steal items from your tiger den. Pretend to be asleep so that the students can steal one of the flashcards from the floor while you are dozing off. Awaken and drag any slow students back to the den. Say, "I don't have a..." as you stare at the flashcards you have on the floor. The person who took it will respond, "I have a..." You could also make guesses as to which students took which cards, for example, "Ricky, do you have my pencil?" No.I don't have your pencil".

Note: It's okay to let students move quickly and compete to collect cards if you have enough room. Since I only have a small area, I encourage students to pick up the cards quietly and slowly. If student are making too much noise I wake up and tell them that they have been caught by the tiger and are out. Once you've repeated this a few times, they'll become competitive and concentrate on avoiding capture.
